My Left Thong

From Darwin, we headed for Mary River National Park, just west of Kakadu NP. On the way we got talking to a young German fella who I understood to be a roofing specialist until I worked out he was in fact talking about Woofing work, where backpackers receive board and meals in exchange for a few hours of hard labour. He found little humour in my misunderstanding. Here is Lisa, cruising for crocs on the Mary River - apparently the most heavily populated in the world.

Mary River Park offered us an opportunity to sit, snooze and read for a few days. Cooking in our little stove and really slow down. The air was clean, the birds prolific, and despite Lisa's insistence on my recording all wildlife in a leather-bound botany workbook, I was at a loss to accurately identify exactly what kind of birds as I left my copy of "What Bird is That?" on my bedside table at home.

On a romantic walk around from the campsite, we stopped on the bridge to look for more crocs:

It was all very peaceful until I dropped my left oriental workboot:

I wasn't prepared to retrieve it. Neither was my 'laugh in the face of danger' traveling companion:

Yeah, take my photo, funny girl, I loved that thong:

I feel sorry on checking your blog to see only two comments. So in case there's someone else out there checking, I'll make that three but only to say on Thursday, July 12, we're in Broome and leaving for Perth tonight on a 1830 flight. Maybe you could've added Broome to your itinerary - it's quite a place and it's WARM here, compared to the weather in Perth and Sydney, where we're heading. Also the crocs and fatal jellyfish are dormant or non-threatening at this time of the year. We saw "Knocked Up" last night - recommended and even compulsory viewing for Lisa. Very funny.
