It's fun to stay at the...

We arrived in the Northern Territory's Capital, and ate out as planned. Plenty of Irish and English overstaying their visas and employment galore - advertisements everywhere, in windows, every hostel noticeboard, on the TV! It's also the tourism High Season, so every financial transaction has a premium added, but SE Asia will help balance the books.

We organised our bus tickets and made a few destination decisions around town for the week-long journey to Leanne's in Warmun, WA. Having lunch in the park, looking over Darwin Harbour in the fresh air and pleasant climate, was a highlight. Getting out of Darwin to a campsite in the middle of nowhere was our goal but regional public transport is quite a challenge in a country obsessed with 4WDs and caravans.

The Darwin YMCA offered us a bed and a table, we accepted. The sheets were clean, the door locked, the price was right. We didn't quite fit the demographic - male, ageing, burnt-out, afflicted, lost, long-term, in one case rushed to hospital not to return... it was functional in the same way a late 70s Torana, running on 3 cylinders does the job, just. But this isn't meant to be a whingey blog, just a record of the good bits, so I won't go on about reception being closed at 5.30 on our return from Mary River two nights later despite our booking...

Here I am, hanging out with all the boys, at the complimetary gym.
